Sprinkle some Fairy Dust on our Brightest Sparkle and Family

It is with a lump in my throat and a heavy heart that I write this to share with you the heartbreaking story of my 9 year old neice Skyler. I ask for you to take the time to read their life changing reality and if in a position to do so make a donation.

In November, Skylers parents Jason and Michelle were faced with every parents worst nightmare. For what they thought could be a suspected fractured leg, turned into hearing the unbearable news that Skyler has a rare and aggressive type of bone cancer called osteosarcoma.

Due to the agressiveness of the cancer and the size, there was no time to waste, and their battle against cancer started immediately before Christmas 2024. Skyler is now into her second month of calling hospital her second home receiving intensive chemotherapy and faces a life changing surgery in March where her leg will be amputated in order to remove the malignant tumor. After that, will come recovery, more chemo (minimum 5 months post surgery), and plenty physio to learn how to use her leg and, in time, a prosthetic.

Who knows where the road is going to lead over the next 9 months. After just two months Skyler's parents are now coming to the reality that not only do they have the fight of their lives keeping their daughter alive, they are also quickly realising there will be increased financial strain of having a reduced family income with regular time off work needed, medical costs (not all is covered by medicare), transport, and just the cost of living and supporting a family of four in Brisbane.

They have already used savings to supplement missing income, purchase a new pediatric wheelchair, and make essential modifications to their home, such as installing rubber non-slip flooring and shower chair in the bathroom. However, with many hospital stays to come and Max (her 7 year old brother) also at home, they also need to provide care for him and ensure he is supported with school and maintains as normal a routine as possible while Skyler is in the hospital.

It is for this reason that I have decided to reach out to friends, friends families and their friends, schools, sporting clubs, the whole broader community to help support this beautiful family financially so they can focus on the cards they have been so unfairly dealt. If you are able to contribute, please consider making a donation to help support Skyler and her family during this difficult time.
