Hello,
I would like to introduce you to the sweetest, funniest, clumsiest, hunkiest, chunkiest babe you’ll ever meet, Stella. Miss Stell is a 3 year old (we think) Staffordshire Bull Terrier mix that I was fortunate enough to adopt seven months ago from a close friend who’d been fostering her in LA. Getting a dog, especially a rescue, was not something I saw coming so soon into my life but after I met Stella I couldn’t imagine not having her. When it came to adopting her I had a few hurdles to jump through but the cards played in my favor and I was lucky enough to adopt her!
Sadly, when I met Stell Bell, she was slowly recovering from a severe and neglected case of demodicosis that also caused pododermatitis. The Demodex (mites) were causing mange and the Pododermatitis, which is the inflammation/infection of the skin and connective tissue of the foot.
Seven months and several specialist visits later, I’m so happy to report that those pre-existing issues have been fully treated!! Since she’s been getting more comfortable in her environment, she’s made a bunch of friends, both human and dog (more humans than dogs, but we’re working on it) and has started walking and running (just as long as it’s in the direction of the beach). However, a few months into livin’ the good life, Stella was running on the beach with her best bud Taz, and was playing a little too hard in the sand causing her to go lame on her back left leg. I took Stella to the vet who mentioned doing conservative management as an alternative to surgery and to strengthen her legs and at first it seemed to be helping a lot until she came back limping on right leg after a walk. I took her in for x-rays and tests to later find out she was likely using her back right leg to compensate for the hurt left leg, which revealed that both her back cruciate ligaments were torn and she's already had signs of arthritis. Upon multiple recommendations, it was clear that Stella was going to need extensive surgery on both her back legs. After what seemed to be unending hassles with insurance, it was clear that all of Stella's surgical bills, relating to her back legs, were in no way going to be covered.
It is painfully difficult for me to ask for help, and open up in a situation like this, but Stell means the world to me and I am dedicated to her through any situation. With that being said, I am asking for your help.
In order to get the best recovery results, Stella will be getting a TPLO (tibial-plateu-leveling osteotomy) procedure on both legs. In having a dog, I knew there would be expenses but six months ago, I didn’t foresee one of this extremity, in both the monetary cost and the physical strain Stella would undergo. But who ever does? The TPLO surgery is an estimated total of $10,000, approximately $5,000 per leg. Both of Stella's surgeries are planned within 6 weeks of each other, the first being October 3, 2016, and are, as of now, being paid with a line of Care Credit. That being said, I have launched this GoFundMe to raise any monetary support for Stella’s surgeries.
The money contributed will go directly to paying off the remainder of her surgery bills. The costs are the actual surgery, medications, x-rays and physical therapy. In addition to this campaign, I will also be hosting a handful of smaller events in order to raise more support
For now, I want to say thank you - for taking the time to read Stella’s story and for your generosity in helping Chunky Butts back on her legs and out on the town.
Hopefully you’ll see Stella and I playing at Ocean Beach soon
Thank you from the bottom of our hearts!

This is Stella a month after I met her, pre-adoptions, already on oral and topical antibiotics
This is Stella in June, heading out for a hunky hawaiian beach day with her dudes!
