This page is set up to raise funds for the funeral expenses of my loving
tio Roberto, who has unfortunately left us to be with our Heavenly Father.
Roberto Aguirre Ponce, a hardworking, charismatic man, left his native town in Sinaloa, Mexico, in the early 1960s to pursue a better life for himself.
Roberto knew he wanted a family, a home, and to be part of a community where he felt accepted. Striving to provide a better outcome for his future, he decided to make the move to Los Angeles.
Roberto was a man of his word. He handled his business, stayed disciplined, and was always responsible. He had a lot of love for his family and the close relationships he had established over the years. From living in Ktown and Compton to Commerce City, he eventually called Boyle Heights home, where he will be laid to rest. He earned the respect of his neighbors and community members with his optimistic way of seeing life regardless of the challenges he had to face. Tio Roberto was the type of person that wanted to accomplish so much, and his never-ending faith in God gave him the strength every day to do just that.
In 2017, tio Roberto was unfortunately diagnosed with cancer. Those who had seen him would have never suspected it. He maintained his charismatic and positive attitude even through his diagnosis; he still had a lot of fight in him.
Roberto Aguirre Ponce passed away on Tuesday, October 15, 2024, at 7:48 AM, surrounded by his youngest son Omar and nurse aides at his home in Los Angeles.
Roberto Aguirre Ponce leaves behind 7 amazing children and many grandchildren. He leaves behind a family legacy in Oregon, California, and Mexico. He leaves us with a reminder of that American dream that our tios and tias, our grandparents, and parents crossed to the U.S. for. He leaves us with the work ethic, integrity, and respect he embodied when striving for success. He will be greatly missed by all, and the memories we had of him as “Tio Roberto de East LA.”
Your donation will be a contribution to the funeral expenses, ceremony, and memory of tio Roberto, in order to give him the service he deserves. Any amount is welcome and is greatly appreciated.
“I have fought the good fight. I have finished the course. I have kept the faith.”
