Our Story
The Sol y Luna Home opened its doors at the end of 2018, providing a safe and loving home for 20 children from the Sol y Luna Foundation who had been abandoned or maltreated. Just a few months after opening, the pandemic hit, tourism ground to a halt and the source of funding for the Sol y Luna Home dried up.
Panchito is 5 years old. He lives at the Sol y Luna Home with his two big sisters as their parents are unable to care for them.
One year later...
The Sol y Luna Home provides education, and a stable and loving environment for 20 children from troubled backgrounds.
Who would have thought the pandemic would have lasted this long? One year later, and our main sources of support for the Sol y Luna Home (hotel reservations, donations from our guests and members of the travel trade) are still very much reduced, and we must appeal to your love and support once more.
What are our annual costs?
The Sol y Luna Home costs include:
- Educational resources and books
- Food and staff wages
- Utilities costs (water, electricity etc)
- Internet and telephone service
- Maintenance of the property
- Cleaning supplies
- We would like to expand the garden to include sports area
Reach for the sky
Spending time outdoors each day is important for mental well-being, we carry out games and workshops for our children.
The Safety of Home
We were hugely moved by the support of those who contributed towards the Save the Sol y Luna Home 2020, thanks to you these children have been able to remain in a stable and loving environment during a very difficult year.
We try to keep families together as much as possible, here we have 3 brothers together at the Sol y Luna Home.
Make a difference
Every donation, big or small, makes a difference. Your support has an immediate effect, making a difference to the lives of our children.
We see huge changes in our children as they benefit from being in a loving and nurturing environment.
Transform lives today!
Celebrating birthdays 'en famille' boosts the children's self esteem and teaches them to care for others.
