The Great Derbyshire Cricket Hike
Belper Meadow Cricket Club, founded in 1880, is set in the in the historic world heritage site of Derwent Valley Mills and famous town of Belper which is in the heart of Derbyshire. We currently operate 4 senior teams a thriving junior section for all age groups and home to our ladies team the Belper Meadow Belles.
After the highs of last season, winning league and cups, hosting an outdoor cinema for the town, we suffered a terrible winter as the ground was devastated by floods and much damage was caused. After a lot of hard work and time invested by the clubs volunteers much of the ground was fixed, but at a cost.
With cricket being a summer sport, the money we raise from annual subs, bar takings, room hire and outdoor cinema, the affects of COVID-19 has all but ended our season before it has started. With no income coming in, we are struggling to pay the bills to keep our fantastic club going.
A few of our club members have therefore come up with a challenge to raise some money tohelp cover the costs.
We will be walking from Derbyshire’s most northerly club, Tintwistle, through the Peak District, down through Belper, and onto the most southern club Lullington Park. Estimated to be close to a gruelling 80 miles.
Any contribution will be gratefully accepted, and we hope to be providing cricket and events for Belper for generations to come!
Thank you and stay safe
