Medicine & Healthcare at Yale -Summer Springboard
Beschermde donatie
My name is Allison Arredondo - Reyes and I'm a junior at West Early College. Going to college is something that has always been a dream of mine to accomplish and that will be a reality for me next year. But getting to college has been a journey. I recently got accepted to a wonderful opportunity. I was accepted to the Summer Springboard program at Yale. This opportunity for me is a once in a life time opportunity. This program will help me shape my future in the medical field and will also give me a change to be on a Ivy league University campus Yale. Not only because of all the new things I would get to experience but because I would be making my family and school (West Early College) proud. Being in the medical field has always been something I'm passionate about because of all the interesting ways that the human body functions. Being a doctor means helping others in multiple ways, whether it means connecting with your patients and being someone they can trust or being someone who helps patients get better when they're in need. This opportunity will give me the chance to get a hands on experience in the medical field with other peers that have the same passion as I do. In the future I'll be a Latina doctor who came from an undocumented family who struggled financially but was successful. My goal is to be able to go change the way others view people who come from the same place that I do the West Side of Denver. I'll be serving my community for those who have the same struggle so that I could help them pursue their dreams because I was once in their spot. Below are some of the program highlights:
· Learn practical skills such as suturing, placing a splint, stopping a bleed, taking vital signs and performing CPR
· Train in a simulation lab where healthcare students and faculty hone and refine their life-saving skills
· Gain valuable insight into diverse educational and career opportunities in medicine and healthcare
· Work in teams as you research, diagnose, and develop a treatment plan for simulated patients
