March 2016, my sister Veronica was diagnosed with HER2+ breast cancer; which tends to be an aggressive type of cancer. Thankfully she noticed the lumps early and immediately took action by having test completed. After receiving the diagnosis, medical treatment needed to begin quickly. Her initial treatment plan consisted of monthly chemotherapy for 6 months, radiation, mastectomy and then breast reconstruction. Veronica is currently receiving medical treatment at The Moffitt Cancer Center in Tampa, FL. She drives/rides 2.5 hours (with family) from her home in Brevard County to Tampa for her chemotherapy and various medical diagnostic tests.
As a single mother of her precious and gifted 12-year-old son, she has continued to work 3 part-time jobs to help with household/living and medical bills. Patrick Air Force Base as a Youth & Program Assistant of 10 years, Home Depot and as a Mentor at a program for children in foster care. She will soon go on medical leave (mid-July 2016) due to her urgent need for surgery to remove her right breast and lymph nodes.
Veronica’s medical bills average about $2,500 a month after insurance. The goal is set for $5,000 to assist in covering a portion of her medical bills throughout the estimated 2-year-duration of the battle against breast cancer.
Those of you who know my sister Veronica, know that she is loving, generous, caring, friendly, funny, outgoing, outspoken, a natural born leader and organizer. She will initiate a conversation with anyone and somehow manages to keep in contact with extended family and friends all over the world – that’s just her thoughtful nature. If you don’t know Veronica, she is hardworking woman who will go out of her way to help anyone (including strangers). She simply enjoys serving others – especially children and youth.
If you will, please extend the same care through continuous prayers and donations of any amount. Your loving prayers, support, thoughtful gifts and gestures have kept Veronica going thus far. Everything is much appreciated. Thank you. <3
