Westport Police K-9 Unit Fundraiser
Donation protected
Welcome to the Westport Police Department's K-9 Fundraising Page!
For those who may be unfamiliar, our K-9 unit relies entirely on public donations. Your invaluable support enables us to train, care for, and enhance the safety of our community through the presence of our K-9 unit in the Town of Westport.
Each K-9 serves the town diligently for a period of 7-10 years, becoming an integral part of our team and our lives. As they near retirement age, it becomes essential for us to plan for their successors, ensuring continuity in our efforts to keep Westport safe.
As we embark on the journey of 2024, our unit is undergoing significant upgrades. We urgently require new vehicles for two of our K-9 Officers, and one of our cherished service K-9s is scheduled to retire in December 2024. Through this fundraising initiative, our goal is to secure the necessary funds to cover the costs of acquiring the vehicles and implementing a training program for Atlas's successor.
Your ongoing generosity and support have been instrumental in safeguarding the well-being of the Westport community. It is both an honor and a privilege for us to serve you and your families. Together, let's continue to make a difference and uphold the safety and security of our beloved town.

PROJECT 1:
Each of our three K9 officers drive specially equipped vehicles that are outfitted with the necessary equipment to keep their K9 partners safe, secure, and comfortable during each shift. Two of our K9 vehicles are due for replacement in 2024. The cost to outfit all the necessary equipment is $20,000 per vehicle, which includes the installation of a kennel, temperature monitoring system, storage, and emergency lighting for a 2024 Chevrolet Tahoe. Total Project Cost: $40,000
PROJECT 2:

Our goal is to honor the legendary career that Atlas has had not only as Westport K-9 but also as an active member of the Auto Theft Task Force. He has been integral in the apprehension of more than dozens of criminal offenders over the years. As his retirement approaches we need to raise funds to purchase a replacement dog and cover the cost associated with the necessary training. The dogs that are bred for police work have to be the best of the best and cost approximately $12,000, and the 12 week training program costs approximately $6,000. Total Project Cost: $18,000
