She continues to recover and is making progress, but she still has a long road ahead and requires ongoing medical care, support, and close attention. For over forty years, Mama Grace was the warm heart of her hometown back in Uganda. A devout Christian whose faith was felt long before it was spoken, she spent decades cooking meals for grieving neighbors, funding school fees for neighborhood orphans, and opening her doors to anyone needing shelter or a listening ear. She lived by a simple rule: “What you give to others, you offer to the Lord.” Eventually, Mama Grace traveled abroad to stay near her daughter’s family, eager to watch her two young grandchildren grow. But within months, a sudden, aggressive illness struck. The vibrant matriarch found herself confined to a hospital bed far from the familiar red soil and close-knit community of her home, surrounded by monitors, oxygen lines, and a dedicated foreign medical team. As her condition grew critical, the financial burden escalated rapidly. The specialized care required to keep her stable generated hospital bills far beyond what her daughter and son-in-law could manage alone. Bound by love but strained by resources, her family faced an overwhelming road ahead. Yet, grace has a way of returning to those who sow it. When news of Mama Grace’s condition reached her community back home and across the diaspora, a quiet wave began to build. Former neighbors, students whose tuition she had quietly covered years ago, and church members across thousands of miles started connecting. A fundraising effort was organized, spreading from group chats to church bulletins. Small donations poured in from everywhere—some sending a few dollars earned from market stalls, others contributing whatever they could spare from their paychecks abroad. Though separated by oceans, her global village rallied around her. Surrounded in her room by her daughter, son-in-law, and grandchildren, Mama Grace felt the warmth of a thousand prayers and the practical help of a community ensuring she received the care she needed. Her life of selfless giving had come full circle, proving that a seed of love planted in faith will always yield a harvest when you need it most.

There are moments in life when people are reminded that no one truly walks this journey alone. Sometimes those moments come through celebration, and sometimes they come through hardship. Nissi Charity Galore, founded by Hilda Ayebare, was inspired by serious medical needs affecting people close to Hilda’s heart, including family members who need medical procedures and surgery. Out of respect for their privacy and dignity, Hilda has chosen not to publicly share their identities or personal medical circumstances. What these experiences made clear is that no family should feel completely alone when facing a serious medical crisis, and no one should lose hope simply because essential care has become financially overwhelming. This fundraiser exists to help carry some of that burden and offer compassionate support to families facing urgent medical hardship. Nissi Charity Galore begins with helping those closest to Hilda, but the vision is much bigger. As this mission grows, funds will help cover urgent medical expenses while also supporting the development of a community-centered initiative built to reach more families in need over time.
