Hello, we are Team Food Super Heroes. Thank you in advance for taking the time to consider helping with our cause. I have seen firsthand how families can struggle to put food on the table to feed their family. Raising four children was not easy, and some years were harder than others. The last thing any parent wants to see is their child hungry, and there's nothing you can do. The U.S. has programs to help needy families with assistance programs, helping them until they can get on their feet again. Other countries outside the U.S. do not have these programs available to help them. This is where and how we can help families and get them fed.

A basic physiological need that everyone has and NEEDS to survive is not so simple for everyone. Food insecurity is a condition of not having enough or the right kinds of food available to support a healthy body.

Action Against Hunger takes a tailored approach to address communities in need. Our donations not only help feed those in need, but additional resources are also used to help start up local markets. They also help communities create sustainable food sources.

Right now, millions of people across the U.S. are facing hunger, an issue that is both heartbreaking and urgent. Families, children, and even seniors are struggling to get enough food to sustain themselves every single day. Despite living in a country with abundant resources, the reality of hunger persists. As difficult to comprehend, yet it is true: hunger is real, and it is happening all around us right now.

We, a group of students from the University of North Texas, have been working on a class project for our social engineering course. We chose to partner with Action Against Hunger because we care deeply about ending hunger. We believe no one should have to go to bed hungry, no matter what.

Why Hunger is Such a Big Problem

Almost 1 in 9 people in the U.S. struggle with food insecurity—that’s over 38 million lives, including 11 million children. It’s devastating to imagine a country where food overflows, so many families don’t have enough to eat. The problem isn’t the lack of food; it’s that millions simply can’t afford it, and it is a reality that worsens with every new global crisis.

Right now, hunger isn’t something that can wait. We can’t sit around and hope it gets better on its own. We need to act, and we can make a difference—if we all come together, we can fight hunger and create change.

Hunger is a critical issue that affects nearly 40% of the world’s population. Every night, 733 million people go to bed hungry. Malnutrition is responsible for nearly half of all deaths in children under five, claiming the lives of more than two million children each year. Addressing this issue is crucial because hunger not only affects physical health but also impedes cognitive development, economic productivity, and overall quality of life (AAH, 2024).

Our Impact:

Action Against Hunger’s proven solutions save lives. We provide emergency food assistance, clean water, and health services to those in need. Our programs reach 24 million people annually, and 90% of every dollar donated goes directly to our field programs. We work with local communities to ensure sustainable change, empowering them to grow their own food, raise livestock, and improve their health (AAH, 2024).

A Story of Hope:

Meet Amina, a mother from Kenya. Severe drought had left her community without food or water. Amina’s youngest child was severely malnourished when our team found them. Thanks to the support of donors like you, we were able to provide Amina’s family with the nutrition and medical care they needed to survive. Today, Amina’s child is healthy and thriving, a testament to the power of compassion and generosity (AAH, 2024).

Action Against Hunger is a global non-profit organization which leads the world in the ongoing fight against hunger by providing access to food, clean water, and sustainable solutions in over 45 countries.

Action Against Hunger tackles global hunger, an extremely important social issue which affects an estimated “35% of the global population” (Concern Worldwide U.S., 2024).

Malnutrition remains one of the most prevalent issues among youth on a global scale. According to the World Health Organization (WHO) in 2023, “nearly half of deaths among children under 5 years old are linked to malnutrition.”

Poverty is simultaneously a cause and effect of malnutrition. The World Health Organization emphasizes that “people who are poor are more likely to be affected by different forms of malnutrition,” and that malnutrition can result in snowballing issues such as increased healthcare costs and reduced productivity/increased lethargy, both of which only perpetuate the cycle of poverty and malnutrition. By supporting Action Against Hunger, donors can help to interrupt and put a stop to this cycle by directly providing for those in need.

The Disasters & Emergencies that hit the world unexpectedly ; forces displacement, disruption of food production, causes damages to infrastructure and increases health risk. “Cyclone Batsirai left thousands of people in severe and urgent need of aid in Madagascar. Our teams stepped up to help, especially in the east, where destroyed harvests could cause hunger” (Action Against Hunger, n.d.-b). Addressing these challenges requires coordinated efforts to provide immediate relief and support long-term recovery and resilience-building in affected communities, Action Against Hunger aims to mitigate the impact of disasters and help communities become more resilient.

The money we make from our campaign will be donated to the organization's page via their preferred method. Once our donation is submitted the organization splits the donations up in many ways. $0.90 of every dollar donated goes directly to their field programs. Every $50 raised funds a full course of Ready-To-Use Therapeutic Food (RUTF)(Action Against Hunger, 2024).

Nour’s Story

We would like to highlight an article published by Action Against Hunger which follows a young lady named Nour during her time of struggle because of war in Lebanon. On October 8, 2023, Nour moved into her new home as a new bride alongside her husband. Tragically, that was the same day that the crisis in Lebanon really began, and their new home was destroyed in an airstrike only days later. For Nour, the loss was devastating - not only did they lose their new home, they lost memories and security. “It felt like all the hard work and effort we put into choosing every corner of that house was lost,” she said (Action Against Hunger, 2024). Nour has seen more than many would believe, yet she says that although she has been displaced there are others who have it worse. It was during this hardship that Action Against Hunger began providing support to those displaced by the conflict, and Nour was able to witness the impact that the food, clean water and hygiene kits had on the community. Nour now continues to work with Action Against Hunger in an effort to help others receive the same help she once needed. By supporting our campaign, you can directly help Action Against Hunger provide assistance to people like Nour; together, we can help provide the resources they need to survive and rebuild.

What does food insecurity mean to you?

According to Merriam-Webster dictionary, food insecurity is defined as the fact or an instance of being unable to consistently access or afford adequate food.

In the world we live in today, 783 million people struggle with food insecurity, that means that one in ten people suffer from it. In 2022, food insecurity for POC households was more than double the rate for white households.

Action Against hunger does more than just give food. They have put a lot of work into creating other ways to combat this problem like through advocacy, clean water, safe sanitation, food security, research, innovation, and emergency response.

Our team wants to take a stand against hunger, too many times have we heard that there are people who are starving right here in the United States, and this issue being constantly swept under the rug as another issue takes precedence. what we want to do is not just sit back and be upset that action isn't being taken but take action.

According to Feeding America and the USDA, one in every five children is unsure where they will get their next meal. In 2021 more than 13 million children in the United States faced hunger. Along with that globally, 783 million go hungry. Something had to change. As a community we should want to see a change, not just a change within the world but in our own community. We want to ensure that with this campaign that meals can be provide to those who are in need whether in family or single households and or schools if needed. Everyday someone either dies or is close to death because of hunger. We can sit back and watch or do something about it. We hear on the news about the changes the government is going to make but you yourself could make that change. Let's start today, lets change our attitude about help and truly start to help.
