Adair Park Today is fundraising
Adair Park Housing Relief Fund
The Adair Park Housing Relief Fund is a community-led crowd fund aimed at preventing displacement in the Adair Park neighborhood. It is responsive to numerous factors, including the millions of unemployment claims filed in the city of Atlanta since the start of the COVID-19 pandemic, and property tax increases within Adair Park that have commonly exceeded 300% over just the last few years.
The Housing Relief Fund provides the opportunity for donors to assist residents of Adair Park struggling with these destabilizing forces. Thank you for donating!
How Does it Work?
It’s simple: donations to this crowd fund will go directly to Adair Park Housing Relief Fund. The fund is overseen and administered by the Adair Park neighborhood association, Adair Park Today, Inc., (“APT”) a 501(c)(3) non-profit corporation — so your donation is tax deductible. You do not need to be an Adair Park resident to donate.
From the funds received, APT will make awards to eligible applicants based on the criteria below.
Where Will the Funds be Directed?
Funds will be directed to applicants experiencing one of the hardships listed below. APT offers other programs (for example, the Senior Network and Youth Outreach programs) to address needs not shown here.
- Rent or mortgage delinquencies
- Utilities delinquencies
- Property tax increases above a certain threshold
- Critical home improvements
Awards will be capped at $500 per household per application. All recipients will be residents of Adair Park.
Can I Mail a Check Instead?
Yes. If you would prefer to pay by mailing a check, please make your check out to Adair Park Today, Inc. and send it to Adair Park Today, Inc., Attn: Housing Relief Fund, PO Box 115555, Atlanta, GA, 30310.
For Applicants:
To apply, you must be a resident of Adair Park (see red boundaries in map below) and you must submit an email to housing @ adairpark dot com or a letter to Adair Park Today, Inc., Attn: Housing Relief Fund, PO Box 115200, Atlanta, GA, 30310. Please state your reason for applying based on the
following guidelines:
- Rent or mortgage delinquencies: You must submit proof of a rent or mortgage delinquency more than one month in arrears (e.g. letter from landlord/lender) as an attachment to your email/letter.
- Utilities (gas/power/water) delinquencies: You must submit correspondence from your utility provider threatening shutoff as an attachment to your email/letter.
- Property tax: To be eligible, your property tax bill must be 4% or more of the most recent purchase price of your home. For example, if you bought your home for $70,000 and your tax bill is now $2,800 or greater, you will be eligible. If you received your home as a gift or inheritance, you will be eligible so long as you can demonstrate financial hardship. All applications must include proof of eligibility as an attachment.
- Critical home improvements: To be eligible, your required home improvement must be subject to a code enforcement action or a threat to health and/or safety. Please submit a description and relevant photos with your email/letter.
The Housing Relief Fund will respond to applications within approximately 14 days of receipt; awards may take one month or more from the date of application to be distributed, especially early in the campaign. Awards are limited to $500 per household per application, and no household may receive more than two (2) awards per calendar year. If your amount needed is below $500, your award will be the actual amount needed. While APT hopes to accept every application that meets the objective criteria above, awards are subject to the availability of funds and to APT’s sole discretion. Eligible applications will be prioritized based on chronological order of receipt. AWARDS ARE NOT GUARANTEED AND SHOULD NOT BE RELIED UPON IN AN EMERGENCY.
Wherever possible, APT will write a check payable directly to the third party requiring payment, e.g. the landlord, lender, utility company, government agency, or contractor. By applying, you agree to release APT from all claims and demands of any type relating to the Housing Relief Fund; additional documentation may be required at the time of the award.
Note: 5% of donations to the Adair Park Housing Relief Fund will go to APT’s general fund to be directed to APT’s other charitable endeavors. All individuals administering the Fund on behalf of APT will be volunteers.
