Inna lillahi wa inna ilayhi rajioon. The world suffered a great loss Friday night. Anyone who knew Jenan AbuRomi is reeling in anguish--we are devastated, shocked, shaken by the sudden and unexpected passing of such a young, amazing person. The grief for many of us feels so strong and the sadness so heavy. Jenan was the epitome of compassion. She loved so deeply with her whole heart, and was one of the most sincere and kindest of hearts. She taught us to love the little things, to find humor in the most unlikely situations, to savor all the happy moments. She made a conscious effort to live each day intentionally, and she focused her time and energy on making an impact on others while also soaking up every opportunity to bask in her blessings.
Oftentimes the passing of a loved one is what propels us to reflect on the fleeting nature of this world. Jenan was a constant reminder of this reality in her life not just her death. She has always been deeply cognizant of the temporary nature of this life, and attached her heart to God and seeking his pleasure. She was in a consistent habit of prayer and dhikr, right up until her final days. Many people follow the mantra "you only live once". But Jenan understood that we only live twice, and the afterlife is our everlasting abode.
"(It will be said to the pious): "O (you) the one in (complete) rest and satisfaction! Come back to your Lord, Well-pleased (yourself) and well-pleasing unto Him! Enter you, then, among My honored servants, And enter you My Paradise!"
-Quran 89:27
