American Friends of Magen David Adom

My name is Leo Gorel, and I am raising funds to support Magen David Adom (MDA) for my Bar Mitzvah project. In these difficult times, I especially wanted to support humanitarian efforts in Israel. In researching various charities, I came across MDA, the Israeli branch of the International Red Cross Movement, and knew that this was the organization that I wanted to support.

MDA is a national rescue organization, which operates emergency services and blood banks in Israel. Every 22 seconds, an ambulance is dispatched to an Israeli in need because of this foundation, which operates over 2,300 emergency vehicles. After the recent terror attacks on Israel, MDA treated over 14,570 resulting injuries. Our support is needed now more than ever.

So, I ask of you, please donate, in order to support this organization's mission of saving lives.

My son's Bar Mitzvah project is to help raise funds for the American Friends of Magen David Adom (AFMDA). He was inspired to choose this charity after the horrific attacks, kidnapping, and killing of Israeli citizens on October 7th, 2023. As we live in California, it has been heart wrenching to watch the senseless violence and we all feel helpless to do anything about it. Not only do we have a lot of family in Israel that are constantly affected by this terrorism, our own cousin, Ran Gvili, was one of the victims who was murdered.

Israelis depend on Magen David Adom (MDA) to save lives every day. And MDA depends on Americans like you. Your support ensures MDA can save thousands of lives each year, from a sick child to a victim of a rocket attack.

In the United States, disaster relief, ambulance, and blood services are handled by an array of organizations. In Israel, there’s one organization that does it all — Magen David Adom.

I am very honored that one of my family members has agreed to MATCH every donation so, YOUR DONATION WILL BE DOUBLED!

One ambulance can cost $120,000, so I have set my goal to raise $10,000, which means MDA will get $20,000 with that match!

My grandfather survived the Holocaust. He watched his own father get murdered solely because of his Jewish religion. And now 78 years later, innocent Israelis - including Holocaust survivors - are being tortured again.

On October 7, Hamas launched a major attack against Israel. Hundreds of Israelis have been killed and more than 2,000 have been injured. On this day, more Jews were murdered than any other single day since the Holocaust.

Babies, children, elderly, and women - innocent civilians - have been raped, killed, and abducted. This is a calculated murder of individuals just because of religion and it is horrific.

I am running the Marine Corps Marathon in Washington, DC on October 29th and would like to dedicate my run to raising money for the non-profit, American Friends of Magen David Adom.

Founded in 1940 as the American Red Magen David for Israel (ARMDI), American Friends of Magen David Adom (AFMDA) is the sole authorized fundraising and advocacy organization in the United States supporting the life saving efforts of Magen David Adom (MDA) in Israel and representing MDA in the US in all matters. MDA and its team of trained volunteer and professional medical responders depend on AFMDA support to provide the entire nation's pre-hospital emergency needs, including medical, disaster, ambulance and blood service to Magen David Adom.

Your donation ensures Magen David Adom's 33,000 paramedics, EMTS, first responders, and first-aid providers -- volunteers and staff -- have the training, equipment, and medical supplies they need to treat all injured and ill people in Israel.

This is not just about religion - this is about humanity. Every dollar counts.

Dear friends and family, for my mitzvah project I will be collecting money that will go directly to the American Friends of Magen David Adom, and any donation will help make an impact. Following the terror attacks on October 7 in Israel, I have felt a strong desire to do something to help. Now, more than ever, Israelis needs our support. The AFMDA is a wonderful organization that does so much for the people

of Israel. MDA is operating 24 hours a day, responding to all reported incidents and emergency calls across the entire country. Since October 7, MDA has treated 6,500 people. EMTs and paramedics are treating the injured on the scene, providing lifesaving treatment often in the midst of rocket attack and gunfire. They are also transporting patients to hospitals via ambulances and helicopters to receive further treatment when necessary. MDA’s blood services division is supplying 100% of the blood needed by the IDF(Israeli Defense Forces) and is distributing blood units to all of Israel’s hospitals, where injured civilians are being treated. In addition to using blood already in the blood bank, MDA is operating multiple blood drives across the country to ensure they have the consistent supply they will undoubtedly continue to require. Thousands of Israelis have donated blood and hundreds are waiting in line – sometimes for hours – in order to donate. MDA is operating at full capacity, using all available vehicles, equipment, staff, and volunteers, at an additional daily cost of between 1 and 2 million shekels – above and beyond normal operating budget. In response to the crisis, MDA’s Sussman Family Foundation Human Milk Bank is increasing its supply of tested and processed breast milk tor babies whose mothers have been killed, injured, kidnapped, or called to IDF reserve duty. The AFMDA does so much for the state of Israel so I thought it would be the perfect organization to raise money for my mitzvah project. To support our injured friends & family in Israel, the historically Jewish Bradley chapters of Alpha Epsilon Pi, Hillel, & Sigma Delta Tau have joined together to support Magen David Adom*, Israel's national emergency medical service. Donations contribute to training paramedics, health equipment, and medical supplies needed to treat those injured and ill in Israel. 100% of the proceeds go to them.
