Cool Earth Action USA

This September, we're going on the journey of a lifetime to race a rickshaw (essentially a glorified lawnmower with wheels and a steering wheel) through the Himalayas in India with an organization called the Adventurists. Our adventure will take us through more than 1000km over mountain passes, through river crossings, and into remote villages, forcing us along the way to face our challenges head-on. The three of us have been dreaming of and planning this adventure for years and we're so excited to start in less than a month! You can see a little more of what we're expecting to encounter here. Our goal is to use our adventure as a platform to raise money to combat global warming by supporting the charity Cool Earth.

Cool Earth backs, supports, and listens to the people living in rainforests around the world. Indigenous peoples and local communities have lived in balance with rainforest for thousands of years and are the real rainforest experts. The charity is rated extremely high in terms of its impact measurement. As avid outdoorsy people, Roy, Sean, and Oded fully support a charity that aims to protect the Earth's natural resources.

Our journey starts in the city of Leh, in the region of Ladakh in the Himalayas on September 1 and we will be making our way down to Jaisalmer in Rajasthan over the course of 14 days. Some more about us:

We are both born and raised in Sacramento, California, sharing a mutual love of travel. We grew up reading fantasy stories full of epic quests, and may have a bit of a desire to live them out ourselves.

Tyler turns 28 on the rally. They've been working in rope access for the last five years, first on wind turbines all throughout the United States and now restoring and repairing historic buildings in the San Francisco Bay Area. They are working towards a Human Anthropology degree with Oregon State University and have an emphasis in linguistic anthropology. The mechanic of our operation - Tyler has built a number of cars and bikes, and is great with their hands ;)

Forrest is 25. By day they work as a high school English and Theater teacher, working with critical populations of students in the Sacramento area. They are in progress for a Masters degree in Language and Literacy, researching ways in which theatre education builds critical literacy skills in children and young adults. By night, Forrest moonlights as a drag artist and photographer, working in queer performance art and nightlife. Forrest is the navigator - ready to break down any situation and steer our little engine that could toward success!

For our 50th birthday, we are embarking on an insane rickshaw race across Sri Lanka to raise funds for Cool Earth. Cool Earth is a 501 (c)(3) non-profit whose mission is "to back people, to protect rainforest and fight the climate crisis." https://www.coolearth.org

The rickshaw race will be in March 2023, and we will be racing against 50+ teams through the beaches and mountains of Sri Lanka. The race is run by an organization called the Adventurists, who describe it as:

"Imagine yourself and a couple of mates squashed into a 1 donkeypower rolling cake tin tackling thousands of miles of old school adventure. There’s no set route, no back-up and no way of knowing if you’re going to make it. The only certainty is that you will get lost, you will get stuck and you will break down. This is the Rickshaw Run."
