Dixon Community Fire Department

Dixon VFD/EMS is a 100% volunteer community service organization that responds to 200 emergency fire and medical 911 calls every year, all hours of every night and day. We care about the people who live and work in the lower Embudo Valley. We train and work hard to be there for you - to respond promptly, competently, and compassionately.

Although we receive financial state support for purchasing firefighting and EMS apparatuses, much of our training expenses and community events expenses are not supported by government funding. Each year at this time, we appeal to the people of our region to help keep us strong and growing by donating to the Dixon Community Fire Department fund, a 501(c)(3) charitable service organization that directly supports the hard-working volunteers of Dixon VFD/EMS. Your contribution will also support our annual Dixon VFD Aaron Griego Summer Youth Cadet Program that has meant a lot to many young people in this community. Please consider a donation to our work. Dixon Community Fire Department is a 501(c)(3) charitable organization that supports the community service projects and continuing education needs of the 20 EMTs and Firefighters of Dixon VFD/EMS. All of our volunteers are local people, none of whom are paid for their time and effort on your behalf. We respond to 150 9-1-1 medical calls and 30 fire calls each year, all hours of every night and day. We have saved lives, provided comfort to people in distress, managed motor vehicle accidents and rock slides on NM68, coordinated river rescues, and kept small fires from becoming large fires - protecting people and property. Our volunteers need continuing education opportunities to maintain competence and to expand their skills. In addition to our training programs, we hold the Aaron Griego Summer Youth Cadet Program every summer to teach fire prevention and first aid skills to area young people. The Volunteers of Dixon VFD/EMS are here for you every day of the year - day or night - to respond to medical emergencies, fires, motor vehicle accidents, and natural disasters (like the recent flooding). In the past year, we responded to 160 medical emergencies and 25 fire calls. Our Volunteers train together for many hours each month and work to maintain seven emergency vehicles. This year, we were awarded grants to conduct a community-wide chipping project and to initiate a one-year Community Wildfire Protection Plan. Community events sponsored by Dixon VFD include the Aaron Griego Summer Youth Cadet Program, 4th of July Celebration, Santa's Visit to Dixon Elementary School, and the Pancake Breakfast. Government and grant funding do not fully cover our considerable expenses in providing our Volunteers with appropriate training so that we can best serve the community.
