More information about Follow Your Heart Foundation, Inc: Follow Your Heart Foundation is a 501(c)(3) organization with a simple goal to save and rehabilitate as many dogs as possible. We also provide low cost veterinarian services to reduce the financial burden incurred by pet owners. We use a foster-based network of loving compassionate volunteers who are willing to take in these transient creatures until they find their forever home.
Anytime a 63 year old woman puts herself in front of a camera, you know times must be desperate. Well, they are. I don’t know if anyone remembers the distemper outbreak in the summer of 2022. It was horrible trying to save all those dogs and puppies and also keep the doors open. We spent close to $30,000 on testing alone. We have never recovered. We still owe IDEXX (testing lab), BI (vaccine company) and Patterson. I’ve kept us afloat by putting all my inheritance in and by taking out a horrible business loan. I’ve used up my personal credit cards paying for dog surgeries and I’m just unable to do more. I’ll end up divorced if I do. My husband doesn’t know the half of it. Hopefully he doesn’t read this. Our long time hospital manager has been writing grant after grant, without success. Overpopulation is a huge problem here and yet there is no money available to help the most vulnerable. It breaks my heart, but what hurts most is us not being around to do the work. The rescue has given its heart, its soul, and every waking hour to these sweet babies. The team we have is nothing short of amazing. I’m so proud of each one of them. Most of us have been together for years. We know the gift of unconditional love and we just want all of the humans to feel what we feel when we rescue the abandoned and abused and watch as they heal and change lives. There is NOTHING like the love of a dog.
So many lives depend on us, including our long time employees who not only treat the animals, but volunteer and foster for the rescue as well. They have a rescuer’s heart inside them and I am so grateful they work at our hospital. They truly are irreplaceable.
