We were asked to rescue 2 male Great Pyrenees from a farm situation in Monroe, NC on  April 28. We went down and picked them up the next day. Very handsome boys, Abraham and Moses. They came from a terrible situation. 3 years old and they had never been taken to a vet. I took them to my vet the next day for vaccinations, microchips and heartworm tests. Unfortunately, they both tested positive for heartworm disease......sigh....... The vet gave me treatment plans and we got started on the pre-treatment. The estimate was around $1600 for each dog.
So, I took them to the vet on May12 to receive the melarsomine injection. They will stay and receive a second injection May 13 and then we will begin the after treatment. They will be given some time to heal and then tested again in 30 and 60 days. After that, we will schedule them for neutering. All total, we are looking at about $1600 per dog. Please donate to this fund to help offset these costs.




2020 will be our 16th year of rescuing, healing, loving and finding forever homes for these beautiful, regal dogs, and for any other animal that may need our assistance. Over those 16 years, we have grown substantially, and expanded and improved our kennel space and play area for the dogs. In 2019, we adopted out 75 animals. None of this could have been achieved without the on-going support of friends like you.

This year we have been presented an opportunity that will go a long way to further improve our rescue. If we raise $5,000, we will get a matching $5,000 from one of our biggest supporters. With this money, we would like to set up a medical fund for the animals that we rescue. We’re reaching out with the hope that you can help us with this cause.

All of the animals at the rescue are thoroughly vetted and treated before they are placed for adoption. Many need to be spayed/neutered or treated for heartworms. Last year alone, we had 80 animals spayed or neutered and 8 treated for heartworm. Sadly, many of our rescues come to us with serious injuries or illness. These animals are never turned away. Recently, Daisy Mae came to us with a badly broken leg that required surgery. We’re happy to say that Daisy Mae is doing well with her recovery. Elwyn came to us with severe ear infections and a torn ACL, which will require surgery. Simba had to be treated for a bone infection, heartworms and dental problems. In addition to these expenses, there are ongoing medications needed for our senior animals.

As you can imagine, the medical costs at the rescue are substantial. We typically fund the more serious cases by requesting donations individually. Creating a fund that can be drawn on as needed will help to ensure that money is available and that individual donation requests can be reduced.

I just spoke with the vet at the Emergency Vet Hospital in Boone, NC. He stabilized the leg for now, but he doesn't feel like he has the right facility to perform the appropriate procedure for Daisy. He looked over the X-rays and has determined that a simple cast will be a disaster. If you look at the X-ray, you can probably come to the same conclusion. The bones need to be surgically joined back together. He's not sure of the best option, he's recommending that we take her to an orthopedic specialist. I've already called the one in Hickory and hope to get her over there on Tuesday, surgery on Thursday. It will be expensive. He mentioned amputation but does not recommend it, due to her youth and size. Losing a rear leg is very hard on a big, young dog. I'm devastated. I want to do the best for her, but depending on everyone to help out. I know that I've asked so much from you, but I really want to save this sweet girl. Lori Latevola is on her way to go get her and bring her here. Keep her in your thoughts today. I'm going to be preparing a room here, to spend a few days while we figure this out. Update: Sunday Morning ....Dec 29.......6:30AM

I just called to check on Daisy Mae. The vet tech said she did well overnight. She's panting a lot. probably due to the pain meds. The Vet will be in shortly to check on her and decide what is the best option for her. I will update everyone as soon as I get that call. If all goes well, he will set the bone and put her in a cast this morning. Our team will be heading up to get her as soon as we can, hopefully late this morning or early afternoon.

We received a call this afternoon from the Boone Animal Emergency Clinic. A kind neighbor had brought Daisy in with an injury that they believed was the result of being hit by a car. X-rays show that she suffered a transverse tibia fracture in her left rear leg. The neighbor is unable to take care of Daisy’s vet bill so the vet staff contacted Daisy’s owner. The owner has no interest in paying for her veterinary care and told the clinic to euthanize Daisy if they couldn’t find anyone willing to take her in. Daisy has been abandoned by her “family”. This is something we see all too often. This sweet girl is a very young 2-3 years old. She got an amazing report from the vet saying that her disposition is very sweet and they she cooperated with all their tests and needed no sedation to do so. Her x-rays show that with setting the leg and proper care, Daisy should have a full recovery and be able to live a full, happy life with a new family who will love her and treasure her for the amazing dog she is. We have decided to work with the Boone Animal Emergency Clinic and SAVE DAISY!!! She deserves so much better than to be euthanized for something as treatable as a broken leg. Your help with Daisy’s rescue will be greatly appreciated not only by us, but by Daisy and the family who will be lucky enough to get to be her forever family!
