On December 14th, 2024, I will be participating in the NYCRUNS Big Apple Half Marathon. This date will mark the 12th anniversary of the tragedy that took place at my elementary school in Sandy Hook, CT.

As a member of the Sandy Hook community, this date holds particular significance for myself and many others. To honor those no longer with us, I am running my first half marathon to raise funds for the Sandy Hook Promise Foundation. I ask you to help support the transformative work the SHP partakes in to make schools, neighborhoods, and communities a safer space for all. If you have the means, please consider making a donation.

We are both seniors in high school and we have seen many things on the news. For our capstone project, we wanted to bake cookies and brownies to sell for our fellow peers in school.

We want to change the norm of being afraid in school, which should be a safe space.

More information about Sandy Hook Promise Foundation: SHP’s mission is to educate and empower youth and adults to prevent violence in schools, homes, and communities. Creators of the life-saving, evidence-informed “Know the Signs” prevention programs, SHP teaches the warning signs of someone who may be in crisis, socially isolated, or at-risk of hurting themselves or others and how to get help. SHP also advances school safety, youth mental health, and responsible gun ownership at the state and federal levels through nonpartisan policy and partnerships.

In our third year, 6th season, and 3rd ever fundraiser, the Wood Acres Girls Running Club, a club dedicated to empowering young girls through physical activity, is raising money to benefit the Sandy Hook Promise Foundation. The Sandy Hook Promise Foundation prevents the causes of gun violence by educating and empowering parents to make changes in their community focused on the areas of mental wellness, community connectedness and gun safety, as well as policy actions that we can support at state and federal levels.

Sandy Hook Promise's goal is to prevent the causes of gun violence by educating and empowering parents to make changes in their community. They focus on mental wellness, community connectedness and gun safety, as well as policy actions that we can support at state and federal levels.

On Wednesday night I was in the emergency room holding my 8-month old daughter. It struck me that my daughter would probably be fine (and she was), but many families in Texas were coming to terms with the loss of the children in their lives, because of a tragedy that was preventable. 

On June 9th, I will start biking around Lake Champlain. I'm raising money to benefit Sandy Hook Promise Foundation, and any donation will help make an impact. My goal is to raise $5,000. If I meet that goal, I will ride 100 miles on June 10. Thanks in advance for your contribution to this cause that means so much to me.
