The Anthony Rizzo Family Foundation

We are back and ready to tackle Lake Geneva for a third time. More importantly we will try to raise even more money for the Anthony Rizzo Family Foundation. According to cancer research about 10,000 kids under the age of 15 will be diagnosed with cancer this year in the US. Over the last two years we have raised over $25,000 for the Anthony Rizzo Family Foundation which provides support to those children and families battling the disease. This year on Friday, July 7th, we will once again work our way around Lake Geneva. The challenge this year- swim 1.2 miles across Lake Geneva. Then bike once around the lake, roughly 22 miles and finally walk around, another 22 miles. And just for fun, we will find another 4.2 miles to walk so that it’s a full marathon distance.  This is open to anyone that wants to join for all of it or just a portion (please contact me), but appreciate everyone spreading the word so we can have our biggest impact yet, and honor every child battling cancer. Swim will start at 6am, biking by 7:30am and walk around 9:30am. The Anthony Rizzo Family Foundation is a 501 (c)(3) non-profit organization founded by Chicago Cubs First Baseman Anthony Rizzo. Anthony realized during his own battle with cancer that no matter how difficult fighting cancer was for him, it was even more difficult for his family. The Mission of the Anthony Rizzo Family Foundation is to raise money for cancer research and to provide support to children and their families battling the disease.

According to cancer research about 10,470 kids under the age of 15 will be diagnosed with cancer this year in the US. 

Last year, thanks to over 120 donors, over $11,000 was raised for the Anthony Rizzo Family Foundation which provides support to those children and families battling the disease. 

This year, on Friday, July 8th, the goal is to raise $13,574 to make it $25,000 over two years. 

Because I am hoping to raise more, I am going to up the challenge. I’ll swim 1.2 miles across Lake Geneva. Then bike 60 miles which will be more than two times around the Lake. And finally I’ll walk around it plus a little extra to make it a full 26.2 mile walk. Give or take a few feet, this will be 60% of total IronMan distances. 

I’ve got a phone charger ready so I can update and entertain a little more than last year along the way. 

Oh and if you have any interest in joining for any portion of this, let me know. Swim will start at 5am, biking by 7am and walk around 11:00/11:30.

Help Dylan STRIKE OUT CANCER for good!

Dylan was diagnosed in 2017 with Ewings Sarcoma, he spent all of 2017 in and out of Lurie Children's hospital with surgery & chemo and completed his treatment at the end of 2017. Dylan has had No Evidence of Disease for over 3 years until scans in July 2020 showed a mass in his lungs. Surgery was done to remove the mass but unfortunately after an agonizing wait the results confirmed that Ewings was back.

These are the early days but nothing is being left off the table for this round, the Provenzanos are planning on exploring second opinions out of state. The tentative treatment plan will require them to go to Lurie's Children's Hospital in the city very frequently and they only have 1 car which Adam uses to go to work. Pre-covid times the family relied on Uber but that will not work for an immunocompromised Dylan. 

If you have ever had any interaction with Sam (Dylan's mother), you know that she will give you the shirt off of her back. There is never a fundraiser that she has shied away from, raising SO much for SO many. She will never ask for help but now it's time for us to show the same generosity that she has shown to SO many.  If you know Dylan you know that he follows his mother's footsteps closely and is also the kindest 15.5 (that half is important) year old you will run into.
All Dylan wants to do is play baseball and he should be able to, this is absolutely not fair that he has to endure this again. But we know that D is in "beast-mode" and will tackle this beast all over again.  

This fundraiser is going through the Anthony Rizzo Family Foundation with every penny raised going to the Provenzano family. The hope here is for us to help with the financial piece so the family can focus on healing Dylan.
