Hello, my name is Alex and I have been cleaning beaches in Massachusetts for my Mitzvah project, but I'm hoping to do much more than that. I want to help spread awareness to people about the pollution in the oceans.

My hope is that with your help we can donate to The Ocean Cleanup and try to fix this worldwide problem. Pollution in the ocean is killing millions of animals a day, and if we don't act now, by 2030 there could be over 30 million tons of plastic in the ocean.

My name is Zoe Holman and I am hoping to raise 100,000 dollars for The Ocean Cleanup Project and increase awareness of the company. The Ocean Cleanup is a public charity founded in 2013 by Boyan Slat in the Netherlands. With a goal to rid the ocean of harmful trash and plastic and protect marine life, it hope to eradicate trash islands and eventually put the company out of business once the oceans are clean. We started this GoFundMe in middle school as a part of a school project in our band class with little expectations for how much we could do. Despite this, we decided to try and do something we cared deeply about, being the ocean. The amount of support we got was mind blowing and we didn’t know we could raise so much as 3 young kids. Now as seniors in high school, we’d love to revisit our campaign and push to raise even more money to help heal the ocean we love so much. It is our job to shape the future we want, and steps like this can help with that.

My Bat Mitzvah Project: Helping The Pacific Ocean
The GPGP, or Great Pacific Garbage Patch is a patch located in the Pacific ocean. Since 1970, scientists have studied this area of water that is 3 times the size of France, and holds over 1.8 trillion pieces of plastic. Because of this, the Ocean Cleanup Crew has worked on trying to decrease the amount of plastic in the ocean by dragging nets into the ocean in order to pick up and study what kinds of plastic are floating in our oceans. The Cleanup crew has also made aircrafts that can scan a 3D shape of large debris in the water and can calculate it’s mass. It is estimated that by 2050, there could be as many pieces of plastic as there are fish in the ocean, so this will be a BIG PROBLEM!!!

Want to join me in making a difference? I'm raising money for my Bat Mitzvah Project, to benefit The Ocean Cleanup North Pacific Foundation, and any donation will help make an impact. They have been creating ways to reduce the amount of plastic in the pacific ocean for a long time, and have reduced some, but more and more has been found. Due to this much plastic waste, animals and plants have been getting tangled or trapped in our trash, which hurts, and possibly kills them. This also effects the water we drink and the water we wash ourselves with (freshwater from lakes). This includes promoting and supporting the efficient and environmentally friendly extraction of waste from oceans, seas and other waste areas as well as raising awareness of the global plastic problem. This also includes promoting and supporting the environmentally friendly recycling of such waste. This non-profit holds the role of a “Friends of” organization to Stichting The Ocean Cleanup in The Netherlands, and shares with it the joint mission of ridding the world's oceans of plastic.
