U.S. Senate:
The incumbent: Joe Donnelly (Democrat), a former congressman, first elected to the U.S. Senate in 2012.
The challenger: Mike Braun (Republican), a businessman and former state legislator.
Politics: Indiana is a state that trends reliably Republican, although it has elected Democratic governors from time to time. Barack Obama carried Indiana by one point in 2008, but that was the first time a Democratic presidential candidate had won the state since 1964. Republican Donald Trump carried Indiana by 19 points in 2016.
Indiana’s other U.S. senator is Todd Young, a Republican.
The GOP holds seven of the state’s nine seats in the U.S. House of Representatives. Democrats have two.
There is no gubernatorial contest in Indiana in 2018.

Sponsorship contributions to the Rasmussen Reports Citizen-Source project will cover direct and indirect polling and reporting costs for up to four separate polling cycles for each of the designated battleground states. There will be no profits charged or accepted by Rasmussen Reports on this project. Rasmussen Reports will remain solely responsible for all polling matters including timing, questions, fielding, tabulations and reporting. Overall project contributions will be capped so as not to over-raise funds we cannot use specifically on project polling and reporting costs. This undertaking is solely about getting independent unaffiliated battleground state polling data out and into the hands of voters.
