U.S. Senate
The incumbent: Sherrod Brown (Democrat), a former state official who then served 14 years as a U.S. congressman. Elected to the U.S. Senate in 2006, he is seeking a third term.
The challenger: Jim Renacci (Republican), a businessman and U.S. congressman since 2011.
Governor:
Two-term Republican Gov. John Kasich is term-limited and cannot seek reelection.
The major candidates are:
Mike DeWine (Republican). A former lieutenant governor, U.S. congressman and U.S. senator, he is currently the state’s attorney general.
Richard Cordray (Democrat). A former state legislator and state official, he was named by President Obama to be the first head of the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau. Just prior to that, Cordray lost his bid for re-election as state attorney general to DeWine in 2010, making this year’s gubernatorial contest a rematch of sorts.
Politics: Democratic voters outnumber Republicans in Ohio, but the state government is overwhelmingly GOP. Long considered a bellwether state, Ohio has gone for the winning presidential candidate in every presidential election since 1964.
Ohio’s other U.S. senator is Rob Portman, a Republican.
The GOP holds 11 of the state’s 16 seats in the U.S. House of Representatives. Democrats have four, and one is currently vacant.

Sponsorship contributions to the Rasmussen Reports Citizen-Source project will cover direct and indirect polling and reporting costs for up to four separate polling cycles for each of the designated battleground states. There will be no profits charged or accepted by Rasmussen Reports on this project. Rasmussen Reports will remain solely responsible for all polling matters including timing, questions, fielding, tabulations and reporting. Overall project contributions will be capped so as not to over-raise funds we cannot use specifically on project polling and reporting costs. This undertaking is solely about getting independent unaffiliated battleground state polling data out and into the hands of voters.
