U.S. Senate:

The incumbent: Dean Heller (Republican), a former state legislator and U.S. congressman, a member of the U.S. Senate since 2011.

The challenger: Jacky Rosen (Democrat), a businesswoman and current member of the U.S. House of Representatives.

Governor:

The Republican: Adam Laxalt, son and grandson of former Republican U.S. senators, the state’s current attorney general.

The Democrat: Steve Sisolak, businessman and current member of the Clark County Commission, perhaps the state’s most prominent government group.

Politics: Republican George W. Bush carried Nevada in the 2000 and 2004 presidential elections, but the state has given its electoral votes to the Democratic presidential candidate in every election since then. Hillary Clinton carried the state over Donald Trump by two points in 2016.

Current Republican Governor Brian Sandoval is term-limited and cannot seek reelection.

Nevada’s other U.S. senator is Catherine Cortez Masto, a Democrat.

Democrats hold three of the state’s four seats in the U.S. House of Representatives. Republicans have one.

Sponsorship contributions to the Rasmussen Reports Citizen-Source project will cover direct and indirect polling and reporting costs for up to four separate polling cycles for each of the designated battleground states. There will be no profits charged or accepted by Rasmussen Reports on this project. Rasmussen Reports will remain solely responsible for all polling matters including timing, questions, fielding, tabulations and reporting. Overall project contributions will be capped so as not to over-raise funds we cannot use specifically on project polling and reporting costs. This undertaking is solely about getting independent unaffiliated battleground state polling data out and into the hands of voters.
