Berkshire Covid-19 PPE Face Visor Project
Donation protected
UPDATE 27 April 2020:
Thank you to everyone who has so generously backed this campaign. We reached our orginial and subsequent fundraising targets very quickly thanks to you and we are now busily putting the funds to good use producing PPE as quickly as we can. At this point, we have reached the maximum capacity that we can handle with the funds received to date and we would not want to receive further funds beyond what we can productively put to use. Thank you again for your support and we will keep you updated on donations near and far.
Very best wishes to all, Sean and Chris
Inspired by my colleague Ricky El-Qasem , who found a simple way to use his 3D printers to make Personal Protection Equipment Full Face Visors, my son and I have been using our 3D printer and existing material supplies to make small batches of face visors. We are donating these to help protect local NHS key workers and to combat the shortage of Personal Protection Equipment during the Covid-19 pandemic. Each key worker that remains healthy and free from the virus, is able to continue helping patients and avoids unknowingly spreading the virus.
We are using a single printer and raw materials provided by us. However, the printer output is slow and the supplies will soon be used up. If you’d like to support us, your contribution will help with the cost of purchasing more materials and increasing the production capacity with additional printers.
The materials components we use are:
- PLA Filament 1.75mm, which we’ll continue to purchase from Amazon & eBay.
- A4 overhead transparencies and/or clear plastic presentation covers.
- Optional elastic, about the thickness of a shoelace.
Any excess donations beyond what we can use will be used to buy other PPE equipment for local donation.
Full face visors will be donated to hospitals and ambulance services. Spares will be donated to local care workers or GP surgeries.
If you have a 3D Printer you'd like to loan to the effort, please get in touch or I can share with you how to become a local micro-factory for face visors in your own right.
This is a drop in the ocean compared to what health services need PPE wise, but every drop helps. This is crowd-funding for crowd-manufacturing in the local community.
Thank you for your support, Sean and Chris
