From Houses to Homes COVID-19 Relief
From Houses to Homes is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit working to provide sustainable housing, healthcare, and education to Guatemalan families. Run by Guatemalans for Guatemalans, this organization has built over 1500 homes, given medical care to over 30,000 patients, and educates 175 children a year for free. COVID-19 has deeply affected the Guatemalan people and this organization by worsening already unstable financial situations for many families. FHTH is working to provide groceries, masks, and financial resources to families who need it most. They continue to raise money for regular education, healthcare and housing services as well. Any donation, even small, can make a lasting impact during this unprecedented time.
My intern partner (Merry Hertan) and I are organizing a virtual internship by creating a new fundraising program for the organization as they now need funding more than ever.

From Houses to Homes - Covid-19 relief fund
Hi all,
After an endless quarantine in the United States, I finally made the long 36-hour journey home to Antigua, Guatemala. With the airport shut down, I was forced to cross the border by foot from Mexico to Guatemala to make it in time for our 6:00 pm curfew. As I made my way through the country, I was disheartened by the lines of families waving white flags as a symbol of utter surrender. For the many Guatemalans who already struggled to buy food every day, unemployment due to the virus is making feeding one’s family much more difficult, if not impossible. The virus has halted the country and left families with no other choice than hoping that their white flag will get them their next meal.
Guatemala has been struck especially hard by the Covid-19 pandemic, and as I approached my third week here, I was left dumbfounded to the growing problem in the country as our quarantine continued to be extended. I was then presented with an opportunity to support a local nonprofit organization called From Houses to Homes. The organization builds houses for the less fortunate, created a free community school, and opened a small clinic that serves the low-income, rural, and indigenous population in Guatemala. However, due to the pandemic, the organization is now launching a fundraiser for both a new Covid-19 relief grocery delivery program, as well as, direct support for their school, Escuela Kemna-Oj, which is continuing its learning remotely through distributed worksheets and books.
From Houses to Homes rewarded me with the opportunity to support their nonprofit organization by fundraising for their Covid-19 relief fund. Any donation is incredibly impactful to many families and I thank you in advance for your generosity. Whether you are in a financial position to donate at this time, I would appreciate it if you could help spread the word about this cause. Feel free to forward this GoFundMe to any other friends or family who may be passionate about this cause.
Thank you so much for your support! Please feel free to reach out to me personally if you have any questions.

Support From Homes to Houses
Amidst the coronavirus pandemic, our community has gathered together to support healthcare heroes on the home front. However, many underdeveloped countries have not had the infrastructure and support to do so. In an effort to assist these countries in adjusting to the pandemic, Run for Opportunity will be funding From Houses to Homes, a non-profit organization working to improve housing, education, and health care in Guatemala.
Due to the pandemic, one of our founders (Ryan), had to cancel his service trip to Guatemala where he and his peers would have volunteered for the From Houses to Homes organization. Though the cancellation was heartbreaking, through Run For Opportunity's virtual 5k/1 mile fun run, our community can still make a difference.
Run For Opportunity plans to aid From Houses To Home with the donations we receive. Learn more about donations by visiting the our website and don't forget to check out From Houses To Home's website .
You can even Venmo us @runforopportunity! Anything helps!

"In 2004 From Houses to Homes became a registered 501(c)3 in the state of New Jersey. The first home was built in 2005 by Joe, and Oscar along with the help of 2 young men that Joe had met while previously volunteering.
We started building homes in 2005, however we realized that housing, education and health care go hand-in-hand to break the cycle of poverty. “Escuela Kemna'oj” is a Pre K- 9th grade school, which we have operated since 2011. Many of the families whose children attend the school live in homes constructed by FHTH.
Responding to the need for quality health care we opened up St. Josephs Clinic in 2011. On average we treat 300 people a month, with approximately 65% of those being women/ girls."- S
