Global Outreach | Liddle Kidz® Foundation
Oh happy day, my wonderful friends & family! Thank you in advanced for taking time to read this. I am so appreciative of YOU ❤
[Contribution information will be located at the bottom]
And....I am off again!
I just got back from living in Uganda for 3 1/2 months, & I have already been blessed with another incredible international opportunity. As some of you know, I am an occupational therapist & have been working in this field for 6 years. I have worked with many different populations in a variety of settings, ranging from infants with cerebral palsy to the elderly with end-stage dementia....from pediatric clinics in the US to villages in Uganda.
During a loud sleepless night while laying in my mosquito net covered bunk bed in Uganda, I applied....and was chosen to be an international global ambassador to participate in the sustainable Liddle Kidz® International Therapeutic Exchange Program (iTEP).
Occupational therapy is my primary profession, but secret fun fact - I am also a certified pediatric massage therapist (CPMT). Throughout my practice, I have seen, first-hand, the beautiful benefits of pediatric massage on my kiddos with autism, cerebral palsy, SPD, down syndrome, ADD/ADHD, and more.
About Global Outreach Program in the Philippines.
This is a huge honor, as over 4,200 people applied for the 30 volunteer spots. The team is made up of massage therapists, physical therapists, occupational therapists, nurses, child life specialists, and other healthcare professionals.
During this 3 week outreach, we will be traveling throughout the Philippines working in orphanages, hospitals, health care facilities, and care centers. We will be providing therapeutic massage to under-served & vulnerable infants & children, as well as children with disabilities. We will also be providing education to health care professionals and caregivers to promote sustainability of this skill within each context.
This outreach has been completed in the Philippines, Vietnam, India, & Japan. Documentaries of these outreaches can be found on YouTube by searching "LiddleKidz".

YOU can help us to...
Provide nurturing touch to an infant who needs it most.
Infants require nurturing touch and sensory stimulation to reach their full potential.
Educate families to use massage therapy.
When a family learns to massage their child, not only does it encourage their bond, it creates a sustainable impact to allow the child receive massage as needed to aid in sleep, relaxation, healthy growth and development.
Provide pediatric massage to orphaned infants and children with specialized healthcare needs.
Professional healthcare ambassadors provide assessment, treatment and pediatric massage to help address symptoms of children with specialized healthcare needs utilizing a custom designed treatment plan meeting their unique medical needs.
Train healthcare staff to provide continued care.
Training healthcare staff to continue using touch therapy after our team departs creates sustainable change that lasts a lifetime.
Pediatric Massage Therapy....Wait What?
Yes, this is EBP - evidenced based practice. I could talk for days about the benefits of pediatric massage, and why it is important for all children - typically developing, infants, vulnerable children, children with special healthcare needs, and orphans living in facilities.
Pediatric massage for infants can help to improve weight gain, respiratory function, decrease the length of stay (hospitalization), improve parent/infant interaction, improve sleep patterns, & improve long-range behavioral and development testing scores.
Studies also have shown that infants diagnosed with complex medical conditions may find greater benefit from the intervention of massage therapy.
Pediatric massage for children with special health care needs can help to improved muscle tone, joint mobility, respiratory function, sleep patterns, gastrointestinal function, quality & quantity of vocalization, and decreased anxiety & stress hormones.
Pediatric massage can increase levels of serotonin, oxytocin, endorphins. dopamine, and vagus nerve activity. Pediatric massage can also be beneficial as a non-pharmacological pain management treatment.
Amazing Global Outreach Success.
The effects of this program are amazing. Volunteer ambassadors from the Liddle Kidz® trip to Vietnam learned this when the director of one of the charity centers they visited told them of a big change that happened once the caregivers there had incorporated the techniques they had learned: The rate of hospitalizations of the kids from the center had dropped from approximately 40 per year to just 2-3 per year! Incredible, right?
