Hundreds of thousands of people have been displaced in Tigray, Ethiopia as a result of the ongoing massacre. Many are living in informal sites with little to no access to assistance.

With the rainy season now in full force, local physicians are starting to see emerging cases of waterborne diseases like cholera and typhoid, and officials are extremely concerned about large scale outbreaks. This is especially alarming for the thousands of displaced children who are already undernourished and in poor health.

LifeStraw has shipped filters to Tigray and to refugee camps in Sudan where thousands have fled. But the need for safe water to prevent a potentially catastrophic disease outbreak is immense.

Help us provide safe drinking water to families impacted by the recent devastating floods in eastern Kentucky.

At least 37 people have died in the flooding, and hundreds more are unaccounted for. The flooding and continued rains have knocked out homes, roads, essential power lines and water utilities in five counties -- leaving people without access to shelter, food, electricity or safe drinking water.

In the worst hit areas, water lines were washed out completely and it will be months or longer before they can be replaced. Many communities are utilizing springs, swimming pools, and even flood water for all their water needs.

At LifeStraw, we recognize access to safe water as a human right.

Innocent civilians are caught in the middle of this volatile and escalating conflict in both Gaza and Israel.

In Gaza, fears are growing that people are at risk of death due to severe dehydration, and risks for waterborne disease like cholera are escalating. Nearly all safe water supplies have been cut off by Israel, along with fuel and electricity that power water and sewage plants, in the wake of the Hamas attacks.

“Gaza is running out of water, and Gaza is running out of life,” said Chief of the UN agency for Palestinians.

In Israel, many displaced families are sheltering in makeshift shelters and tent cities, according to local nonprofit. “They are not in functioning spaces with access to much." So far, according to our local partner, water access remains reliable for internally displaced people in Israel, but LifeStraw is ready to support should the need arise.

Right now, there is an almost complete humanitarian blockade into Gaza, which makes it extremely difficult for LifeStraw and our partners to respond. Additionally, the majority of available water in Gaza is brackish and salt water; unfortunately, LifeStraw’s products do not have desalination capacity. We are actively communicating with partners, to identify and support with alternative solutions for safe water, once aid is able to enter.

ALL of the money donated to this fundraiser will support safe water access to families in Gaza and Israel. We will update this fundraiser periodically to inform our donors of the progress made. THANK YOU.

About half of Gaza's population of 2.3 million are children. The current offensive is Israel's fifth major one in 15 years. Thousands of children have been killed, countless more have lost their entire families. Hamas has taken nearly 200 Israeli hostages in Gaza, including babies, and young and disabled children. The most vulnerable of humanity is caught in the middle of this crisis.

Help us provide safe drinking water to families with acutely malnourished infants and young children in South Sudan.

South Sudan is on the frontlines of the climate crisis. Four consecutive years of flooding have left two-thirds of the country under water. The country is prone to seasonal flooding, but nothing of this magnitude has ever been recorded.

The floods have displaced hundreds of thousands of people, killed millions of livestock and destroyed thousands of acres of crops. Now, more than 1 million people are facing severe food insecurity and one in five children is severely malnourished.

Compounding the food insecurity, most WASH infrastructure, including latrines and boreholes, have been submerged, contaminating water sources and risking disease outbreaks. Malnourished children are especially vulnerable to waterborne diseases.

LifeStraw is working with nonprofit partner Alaska Health Project South Sudan, to provide lifesaving LifeStraw purifiers to families of acutely malnourished infants and children.

On June 6, the Nova Kakhovka Dam in Ukraine was destroyed. As a result, 80 settlements are flooded, many of which are completely underwater. Hundreds of thousands of people are without safe drinking water. And there are now reports of cholera and E. coli discovered in Kherson Oblast, and rotavirus, salmonella and astrovirus on the beaches of Odesa.

LifeStraw has been actively responding to the crisis in Ukraine since the beginning of the war. To date, we have sent over 22,000 filters and purifiers, as well as winter gear and other supplies, through our network of local partners. But the need for safe water is enormous, and beyond our small company's donations capacity.

HELP PREVENT A  WATERBORNE DISEASE OUTBREAK IN HAITI.

The Haitian government has declared a state of emergency after a 7.2-magnitude earthquake struck the country early Saturday morning, leaving at least 1,297 people dead and more than 3,000 injured. The quake has destroyed thousands of homes, and pushed hospitals and other medical services to the brink.

"The most urgent humanitarian needs are expected to be linked to the provision of medical assistance and water, sanitation and hygiene," said the UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs.

LifeStraw is partnering with a number of organizations responding to the earthquake, to ensure access to safe water for the thousands of impacted families.

**HELP PREVENT THE SPREAD OF A DEADLY CHOLERA OUTBREAK**

Zambian President Hakainde Hichilema has delayed school openings and urged people to relocate from towns to villages following the deaths of over 400 people in a cholera outbreak.

More than 10,000 cholera cases have been reported nationwide in Zambia since last October.

Children bear over 52% of cases, with alarming fatality rates.

The crisis spans nearly half of Zambia's districts and 9 out of 10 provinces, endangering over 20 million lives. Dr. Paul Ngwakum, UNICEF's regional health adviser, points to long-term poor water sanitation and climate change-induced floods as key causes.

The bacterial disease is spread by contaminated water or food – it causes severe dehydration from vomiting and diarrhea, and can kill within hours if left untreated.

In collaboration with key partners like Living Water International, LifeStraw is distributing filters and purifiers to affected communities, offering a lifeline of safe drinking water. We've donated 5 community-size purifiers (serving 5,000 people) and are producing and shipping 16,000 personal filters this week.

Water insecurity and related poor health outcomes disproportionately impacts indigenous communities across the globe, even in high-income countries like the United States and Canada.

In the Navajo Nation, nearly 40% of families do not have running water in their homes. Many families must travel long distances to collect drinking water, often from unsafe and contaminated wells.

In Canada, over 50 indigenous communities still face a critical water crisis, where families have no access to clean, safe drinking water. The Neskantaga First Nation, for example, has been under a boil-water advisory for more than 28 years -- the longest in Canada's history.

**Help provide safe drinking water to those impacted by the recent fires in Maui**

The island of Maui has been recently devastated by catastrophic wildfires. 55 people have been killed and thousands displaced from their homes. First responders are working tirelessly to put the fires out and support impacted families.

LifeStraw is working with first responders with Third Wave Volunteers, to distribute an immediate 400 filters to those impacted by the fires. We're actively identifying other organizations to work with -- to understand the current water situation, and provide additional filters and purifiers.

Since mid-June, heavy rains have triggered flash floods and wreaked havoc across much of Pakistan. Survivors have described harrowing escapes as rising water levels submerged entire villages, swept away homes, and destroyed hotels.

The ongoing floods threaten to submerge a third of the country. They have already damaged much of the nation’s crops, bringing on a food shortage. And doctors are reporting high rates of waterborne diseases.
